Michelle was born in Manchester, UK and began drawing at an early age, studying life drawing and art as a teenager.  She emigrated to New Zealand in 1995 and has been learning to master her chosen mediums.

Capturing the movement of water, and the expression of animals has become her focus, and has resulted in a body of work focused on capturing magical moments of dogs on local beaches. Michelle can often be seen collecting study photographs on early morning walks around Devonport with her golden retriever, Rhubarb, who is possibly the most painted dog in Devonport!   She enjoys painting in a large, realistic, energetic style – reflective of the subject matter.

Michelle paints oils on Stretched with Love or Museum canvases and uses artist quality oils. She generally paints watercolours with Winsor and Newton watercolours on Arches French paper 300gsm.

During lockdown her biggest challenge was to teach an online portrait class via zoom in Silicon Valley in the USA.

Michelle continues to teach online via zoom and now works for the Lake House and  Mairangi Arts Centre as a tutor for watercolour and acrylic and welcomes commissions of portraits, pet pawtraits and landscapes.
